Through 2016 we have been thinking and praying about how we can serve our local community. We have lots of good ideas and in 2017 we will be working out what we can do in partnership with local charities and organisations.
We are proud to help and support a Church Mission Society partner, Dr Ruth Hulser, in Tanzania, where she is working in community healthcare in Tabora. She is the Health Co-ordinator for the Diocese of Tabora, and runs the diocesan St Philip’s Health Centre which she has developed and grown into a significant health care provider for the community and region.
During Lent, we regularly support Providence Row Charity which since 1860 has been helping homeless and vulnerable people in East London, and each summer we hold events to raise funds for Sightsavers International. We are also supporters of Christian Aid Week, through our local Churches Together: as a church we contributed £1,320 to the local total in 2014.
Our monthly retiring collections also contribute to a variety of charities: for example, Richmond based SPEAR (Single Persons Emergency Accommodation in Richmond) which provides quality support enabling homeless people in South and West London to find secure accommodation and work towards a positive future; the Leprosy Mission, whose work in treating leprosy is still needed in the 21st century; Freedom from Torture; Mercy Ships, and others.
