For the last seven  years, St Mark’s has sponsored an open Grandparents Learning Circle.  The Learning Circle is for concerned grandparents who were looking for support in being the ‘best grandparents we can be’.  Grandparents are an under-used resource in society at a time when children and young people face real challenges as they move into the complexity of modern life.  We are not trying to be ‘professionals’ but we do have valuable experience of real life and wisdom.  We share ideas which are motivated by love.

The Circle meets monthly in members’ homes in the evening, taking it in turn to offer a simple supper before we get down to the work.  We have a structure which includes following up questions and issues which we pose to ourselves.  We have learnt how we grandparents are often in a position and have the time to take things further in a non-intrusive and open-ended way.

We have a membership of between 12-16 and we expect a turnover so there are usually places available for newcomers.  We meet on the first Tuesday in each month from 7.30 to 10.00.
